Meet The Secretariat

Secretary General- Ellisse Johnston

Ellisse Johnston is a junior, majoring in Public Relations with minors in Communication Arts and Sciences and French. She splits her time between Bermuda and Penn State! Some of you may remember her- she was Chief of Staff for PUNC 2011 and is incredibly excited to be joining you as Secretary General of PUNC 2012. Outside of Model UN, she enjoys meeting new people, reading, traveling, and watching Food Network. She hopes everything is just perfect for your stay in Happy Valley and cannot wait to welcome back old and new friends in February!

Chief of Staff- Bethany Kline

Bethany is junior majoring in Cultural Anthropology and Russian.  She is a native of Happy Valley and so excited for you to get to know her hometown!  When she isn’t reading Tolstoy she enjoys baking, spending time with friends, traveling, belting out Lady Gaga lyrics, and  watching an unhealthy amount of Keeping Up With the Kardashians.  Having participated in Model UN since her sophomore year of High School, Bethany is incredibly thrilled to be serving as Chief of Staff for PUNC 2012. She plans on making this PUNC a fun and fulfilling experience for all of the staffers and delegates!

Charge d’Affaires- Kayla Tooma

Kayla Tooma is a junior, fresh out of Long Island, NY.  She majors in English with a minor in Women’s Studies and has a passion for international affairs and Model United Nations.  During her free time, she can usually be found behind a piano, a ukulele, or a sketchbook.  She speaks both French and Persian, and enjoys dipping into other languages even just a bit just to learn strange phrases.

She is so thrilled to be on the USG for PUNC 2012, to be working with such incredible people, and is looking forward to an unforgettable weekend!

USG for Marketing & Brand Development- Rory Spangler

Rory is studying Energy, Business and Finance in the college of Earth and Mineral Science. He is a  former president of the Pennsylvania State International Affairs and Debate Association as well as a Secretary General of PUNC 2010. Rory is extremely excited for this years conference and is excited to continue the tradition of engaging committees coupled with the world class hospitality offered at Penn State.

Outside of Penn State, Rory has been an active entrepreneur starting two web companies in Los Angeles. Currently he is a partner in a local consulting firm. He spends his free time enjoying the outdoors, being adventurous, kayaking, making coffee and working on new ventures.

USG for Technology & Finance- Henock Louis

Henock is a junior, currently in Penn State’s Undergraduate/Masters of Accounting Program. While Henock is juggling the thrilling world of accounting and helping prepare one of the greatest MUN conferences of all time he enjoys playing sports, watching his beloved Los Angeles Lakers, and expanding his interest in American politics and history. Though originally from Haiti, Henock has spent the past 10 years living in State College and hopes to show the delegates of PUNC 2012 just how great Happy Valley truly is, while at the same time providing a great conference experience.

USG for Conference Operations- Tom Winkler

Tom is a junior at Penn State majoring in Health Policy and Administration.  He hails from Butler, PA, and is thrilled to be serving on the USG for PUNC 2012.  When not actively debating politics and solving all the world’s problems, Tom is active in groups and causes that provide support for those contemplating suicide and those affected by it, as well as a funding committee for the student body with a $3.5 million budget.  He also is an EMT and spends some nights saving lives, or, as is more likely the case, picking up drunk college students at the local bars.  He is thrilled as this is his third PUNC, and he looks forward to making PUNC 2012 even better than before!

USG for Conference Services- Michael Mahon

Michael Mahon is a sophomore in Penn State’s Schreyer Honors College and is very excited for his second PUNC. Michael hails from the rolling hills and farmland and the sprawling suburbia of the Dutch Country in southeastern Pennsylvania. For him, the sight of a buggies, buggy tie-ups at stores, and Plain People is just another part of life. When not helping to plan an awesome time for delegates at PUNC 2012, Michael enjoys reading classical literature (particularly Modernist literature, including T.S. Eliot, Ernest Hemingway, William Faulkner, and Virginia Woolf); studying history, politics, and other social sciences; learning new languages; hanging out with friends; watching The Office, 30 RockParks and Recreation, and Saturday Night Live; and expanding his horizons. He is a double-major in political science and economics.
